For Those Who Have Sold Their Soul to the Devil

A Real Experiment. Dedicated to Everyone Who Doubts.

From the Author

This experiment was conceived against the background of many questions like “what does it actually mean to sell your soul to the Devil for prosperity?” How will everything unfold afterward, and what should one do next? Theory is good, but practice is practice. So, here is the setup:

A person who sold their soul to the Devil for prosperity. Well, not exactly — I conducted the experiment on myself, and I did not sell my soul for prosperity. It already belongs to the Devil. The experiment lasted approximately 15 months. I chose a specialty in which I had no practical skills and began mastering it almost from scratch. Relying on the Devil as if I had sold my soul to Him.

Here I will make a small digression: in this article I will not focus attention on the chosen profession. I will only say that it involves office or remote work and is related to advertising.

Step 1. Preparing for a “New Life” After Selling Your So

I made a choice about the direction in which I would develop (let’s say it is advertising). Why this one? This profession involves not only an office format, but also a remote one, and many of you may not live in large cities. In order to exclude the factor that “he simply lives in a big city where everything is easy, but here there are no jobs,” I started with the remote format.

Preparing for Interviews

I opened YouTube, subscribed to bloggers who talk about interviews, life hacks, how to pass them, and what to pay attention to. And I began practicing interviews.

It is worth clarifying here that before this moment my last interview had been 13 years ago.

also began studying the new profession in parallel. Books, YouTube (90% of the skill came from there).

Life Hack №1:

Clean up your recommendation feed of videos on social networks and on YouTube so that at least every fifth recommended video is dedicated to developing your new skill and/or studying your profession.

In my case, these were interviews, advertising, marketing, the skill of self-confidence, how to speak correctly and confidently, public speaking, the art of oratory, and so on. In short, everything that would help me in the new job.

Job №1:

I found it quickly. After about 2 or 3 interviews — a remote job with a salary of 40k. A competent resume was prepared (thanks to videos from YouTube) based on an almost completely copied resume from HH.ru and adapted for myself. I invented stories related to choosing a new profession and believed in them.

Here it is worth noting one interesting moment: I sent my resume to positions that required experience I did not have. Being confident that I would not be hired. The goal was to get to the first interview with them. Therefore, in the resumes for these companies I inflated my skills so that they would invite me to an interview. I needed experience in going through interviews and important meetings. From them I learned to be the initiator in the conversation and to have advantage

Back to the first job. Since the work was remote, I continued looking for an office job and soon found one for 60k. At the first job I worked for 2 months and was fired — I worked poorly. I was a bit depressed: how could this be, after all, I seemed to have excellent experience, even if I was new, because I considered myself a specialist. But, alas. I still had the second job for 60k. I didn’t last long there either and was fired. “You’re a good employee, but it has to be this way.” And in fact: you’re a shitty employee and you’re not worth your money…

Well, alas, that is what an experiment is for. And my goal was not 40 or 60k a month. We remember, after all, that the sale was for prosperity, and this is just a survival kit.

The next job was 90k. (The experience gained at the previous one allowed me to go through the interview a little more confidently.) And I didn’t even work there for three months — I was fired because I didn’t show the required, promised results. And I was searching again.

Updating the resume, adding new skills, continuing interview practice with large companies. And I found a new job — the company was not large, although they positioned themselves among the giants))) — and my first salary with five zeros: 100k. There, too, three months and that was it. “You’re a good employee, but we need to cut costs.” Damn, how is that possible. I can’t stay longer than three months. And at the same time, until the very moment of dismissal everything was fine. Crushed again.

Wiped my nose, new resume (here it is worth saying that I searched for the last place for a long time — almost a month. And I came to the conclusion that on hh.ru, employers may keep a history of how often a candidate updates and activates their resume. But as soon as I created a new one, with a new phone number and email, a job was found in a couple of days, and I was choosing which company to work for. There were several offers).

Here one could continue for a long time, but again a dismissal. Then starting over, and now it’s already 180k… and no, not a dismissal, but a promotion to head of the advertising department and 250k (a month after being hired).

Looking Back at the Path Taken

Only after some time, and only at the last place of work, did I look back and analyze the entire path to 250k.

First: I was fired almost as soon as I acquired (mastered) a new skill in my new profession.

Second: If I had not been fired, I might have worked much longer at each place, and perhaps at the second or third job I would have stayed for several years for those 60–90k and stopped developing. But we remember. I asked for prosperity, and the Devil does not lie. He knows better.

Result: At each job I acquired a new additional skill and wrote it into my resume. With it, at the next job they offered a higher salary — even if only a little, but higher.

You Can Go Further and Higher

Remember: after selling your soul, you will not start living in prosperity without getting off your ass and taking steps. Throughout the entire path of my experiment the Devil helped me. So that I would not sit in one place, I received a kick in the ass, left my comfort zone and looked for a new job. Now, looking back, I can say that throughout these 15 months I actually felt the direction and support of the Devil. And it was there even in those moments when I doubted and was depressed. At the very beginning I set myself the goal of a dizzying career with constant promotions. What I got instead was constant dismissals. But perhaps this was necessary for me — to pull me out of the comfort zone and keep me moving.
